The new museum is the result of the integration of the Museum of Decorative Arts, Museum of Ceramics, Textiles and Clothing and the “Gabinet” of Graphic Arts
After many years of work, the Design Museum of Barcelona is ready to open the doors.
The museum contains more than 70,000 pieces, 1,810 of which have been restored, work unprecedented in the history of museums Barcelona.El museum opens with four permanent exhibitions, displaying 2,071 works. “From the museum world” exhibits everyday objects that have made history, innovative designs and leaders who provide everyday people cruet-stand dripping from a faucet in a sink, a clamp through the ice or electric mixer. “Extraordinary!” Includes 1,300 pieces of decorative arts and author Barcelona from the third century to the twentieth. “Dressing the body” as a review for the dresses have shaped the body over time, from 1550 to the present. Finally “Graphic design: automatically profession (1940-1980)” shows the evolution of graphic design (calendars, displays, labels, print ads, packaging and posters) since the beginning of the war to the 80s.
The Design Museum of Barcelona, directed by Pilar Vélez, accompanied Documentation Centre, which contains more than 22,000 documents related to the object arts and design. With the opening of this space, Barcelona Design Hub (DHUB), which also hosts the Promotion of Arts and Design, elBarcelona Design Centre and Library Clot-Joseph Benedict already working at full capacity. The council hopes that contribute to the DHUB Glories of a new economic, social and cultural development in the city and make Barcelona a reference design internationally.
During the first month and a half, until 31st January 2015, the entrance to the Design Museum of Barcelona is free.
