Writing, the identity of people
The Museum of World Cultures will hold until the end of January its first temporary exhibition: Scripture. Symbols, words, powers. The exhibition offers a comprehensive journey through the cultures present varieties, uses and multiple developments of this medium. Over ten different areas and from different elements museum, the exhibition focuses mainly on the genesis and evolution of writing until today.
So Scripture. Symbols, words, power raises questions visitors. We can imagine contemporary societies without writing? What are the differences between a print and complete a writing? We identify with our writing? What are the secrets behind the deciphering ancient scripts?
Based on these and other issues, is how writing, originally born as a tool for preservation and dissemination of the word has become a symbolic landmark of culture and collective identity of the people. The exhibits come from the collections of the City Council, as well as a long list of funds and national and international museums.
