World’s largest cruise ship will stop in Barcelona
The world’s largest cruise Harmony of the Seas, has been delivered to Royal Caribbean and is ready to sail. This colossus of the sea measured 362 meters long, 66 wide, 72 high and has a capacity to accommodate 6,360 passengers and 2,100 crew members.
“It is not only the world’s largest ship, is also the most expensive ever built. I do not want to remove this merit, “said Richard Fain, CEO of Royal Caribbean, during the ceremony. And not without reason, the Harmony has required an investment of 1,000 million euros to become a reality.
“Make a boat of this size in 40 months is something extraordinary. It is the success of thousands of people who have worked on the project. The end result falls short of our expectations, “said Laurent Castaing, chief executive of STX France shipyard where it was built.
With more than 66,000 square meters, this ship is a floating city. It has 16 passenger decks, 24 elevators, 2,747 staterooms, two theaters, a skating rink, a water park with the longest slide in the history of the ships … even has its own Central Park so that passengers can enjoy park while they are surfing the sea.
The Harmony of the Seas will produce 20% less CO2 emissions per passenger and day the Oasis ships of this company. This is made possible by injecting air bubbles below the hull, which will reduce energy consumption. In addition, the system recovers heat exhaust gas to convert it into steam, thereby heating and distilling may be water for use on board.
The first cruise will leave in late May from the port of Southampton. Among their usual destinations are Barcelona, Florence, Rome, Marseille, Mexico, Jamaica and Haiti.
