Barcelona’s first Chinese film festival kicks off
The Lychee Film Festival, the first Chinese film festival in Barcelona, premieres this Friday its first edition until next 22 September. The competition is organized by the Chinese and Spanish Film Association and the Wenzhow Business Association in Spain. The program includes the screening of 21 films, including fiction feature films, documentaries and animation short films, and will consist of three large sections.
The first block is a thematic section on the genus Soft Kung Fu -New Wu Xia. The films that make up this block are: Lu Yang’s sword brotherhood, popular Kung Fu Hustle Stephen Chow, King Hu’s classic A Touch of Zen, and three films that form the retrospective of filmmaker Xu Haofeng, who will be one of the festival’s guests of honor: The master, The identity of the sword and The archer.
The second block is dedicated to a section of contemporary cinema, with films produced between 2014 and 2017. Among the titles selected are two documentaries, There is still a morning of Fan Jian and the Van Gogh of China, by Yu Haibo. Also included are author and fiction films: Lou Ye’s Blind Massage, Yang Qing’s Chongqing Hot Pot, Zhang Dalei’s August, the thriller Deep in the Heart of Xi Yukun, Bi Gan’s Kaili Blues and two films by Tibetan directors Tharlo by Pema Tseden and Soul on a String by Zhang Yang.
Ingrid Olmo, head of communication and press of Casa Batlló, has announced the titles that make up the third block dedicated to animation short films: Li Jin’s Warrior Dream, Ruan Junting’s White Snake, Tang Summer’s Insect Country Bohua and two short guest director Weng Jie: The Killer: The Prequel and The Temple of Feng Xue Shan Shen.
Also the Casa Batlló will be the stage for Lychee Night: a film cocktail, an exclusive event for filmmakers that aims to foster the relationship and dialogue between the Chinese and Spanish film industry. In the intervention of Clementina Milà, public relations and communication at Hotel Omm, two events have been presented at the hotel: Lychee Talks, an afternoon of talks with the guests Isabel Coixet, Xu Haofeng and Wang Hongwei, and a session in “Ask Me Anything” format with Wang Hongwei on the 20th, at 6:00 pm, where users can ask their questions through the networks.
The rooms that participate during the event are Phenomena Experience, which will host the inaugural gala, Cinemes Texas, where most of contemporary films will be screened, Cotxeres de Sants, with several projections of Wuxia outdoors genre, and the Filmoteca of Catalunya, where the closing ceremony will take place.
The program includes a great variety of projections and activities with which it is intended to bring the Chinese culture to the public in Barcelona while providing a cultural offer in Barcelona for the entire Chinese community of the city. With great enthusiasm and dedication, the Lychee Film Festival team anticipates a great success in this first one and hopes that it will be the beginning of a long way of good author cinema and cultural exchange with China.
