Montmeló recovers the spirit of Montjuïc during a weekend
A trip to the past to awaken the memories of motor fans. From tomorrow Friday until next Sunday, the Circuit de Barcelona Catalunya, in Montmeló, will host the seventh edition of the Spirit of Montjuïc. It is a weekend of races and activities carried out with classic vehicles, the same models that were used in the old circuit of the so-called magical mountain of the Catalan capital in the competitions of the 60s and 70s.action mythical machines such as the Chevron B21, the Ferrari 512 or the Porsche 910, among many others.
The event is an ode to nostalgia in which, according to the organization, there are no “closed spaces” and fans can get close to the cars that they admired decades ago in Montjuïc. It is also a time when owners of old vehicles can enjoy the winding layout of Montmeló. The program is completed with a wide range of activities. For example, a market is organized with vintage clothing and accessories, antiques, pieces for collection vehicles, magazines and vintage vinyl. There is also an amusement area with merry-go-rounds, bumper cars and a circus like those of before with tribute to TV clowns and Charlie Rivel. Everything is enlivened with a series of musical performances. The organization encourages attending dress period and provides a hairdresser specialized in rockabilly environment. Seat, which always collaborates with the initiative, will pay tribute to the 50th anniversary of model 124 with an exhibition in its tent of 600 m2 2.“You can see the Seat a million, which commemorated when the brand reached that number of cars sold and raffled among employees,” explains the head of Historical Cars Seat, Isidre Lopez. He will also devise pedal vehicles with which children will be racing on board small replicas of vintage cars. In addition, Seat will exhibit the first official car of rally driver Carlos Sainz, a Seat Panda who drove years before proclaiming himself world champion. Another brand, Renault, takes the opportunity to organize the Passion Renault Experience and gives away free tickets. “It’s not a place to sell cars, we want to provide a positive experience for visitors to the event,” says Renault’s Communication Director in Spain, Javier Sánchez. The French brand expects 25,000 attendees at its facilities in Montmeló, who will be able to test their latest news, electric vehicles and drive “competitive sports cars under the tutelage of drivers”. There will also be road safety workshops for children and various activities with the intention of creating a “family atmosphere”. Finally, during the weekend the Clio Cup will take place, emblematic competition that this year also celebrates its 50th anniversary.
