Barcelona Airport (El Prat) closed its best year ever with 39.7 million passengers
El Prat airport has no roof and closed the best year in its history. The data released today by Aena passenger traffic over 2015 proves it. The thrust of tourism in the Catalan capital, the establishment of new airlines and new routes have allowed in recent years the number of passengers grows steadily.
So, last year closed with 39,711,276 passengers, representing an increase of 5.7% compared to August 2014, with more than four million passengers, was the best stretch of the annual assembly.
The main increase occurred in the segment of international traffic, with 6.7% more. The largest increase occurred in the Latin American market with 21.7%; followed by the Middle East with 19.5%, and North America, with 10%.
Meanwhile, domestic traffic closed with growth of 3.2%. Aena has stressed that all markets grew in number of passengers during 2015, except in countries outside the European Union and Schengen, because of the decline of the Russian market.
Parallel to the increase in the number of passengers also increased the volume of operations at the airport, with a total of 288,878 movements, 1.8% more than in 2014. As for freight traffic during 2015, the airport recorded goods transported 117,219, 14.1% more than in 2014.
International Freight outside the European Union ended the year with an increase of 25.6%; load within the European Union grew by 3.5%, while domestic cargo fell 4.3%.
Exports increased by 18.4% and imports grew by 10.1%, with Germany, Qatar, United Arab Emirates and the United States the main countries with which load connections are established from El Prat.
