Sant Julià de Ramis Castle
For some years there are many motorists who, after leaving Girona Sarria de Ter north, turn to your right and wonder what is being built on the mountain of Sant Julià de Ramis. The answer lies in the company D’Or Joiers, which acquired the old fortress about ten years ago with the intention of turning it into a tourist-cultural center that will include a small luxury hotel, two restaurants, a museum will present a collection area permanent jewelry, two large rooms for temporary exhibitions and a workshop of artist.
D’Or Joiers is a company dedicated to the production and processing of precious metals, whose workshop in Barcelona has been a close associate of Elsa Peretti for more than 30 years and is the leading manufacturer of your designs for Tiffany & Co.
The works of this international art center are well advanced but the complexity of the facilities, the need to preserve the structures of the fortress, protected by the Government as a cultural asset of national interest and relevance to the security demands have delayed its conclusion, originally scheduled for late last year. Leading the project, at an estimated cost of 12 million euros, the architects Josep Fuses i Viader Joan M., author, among other works, the rehabilitation of the houses of Onyar of Girona, restoration of the facade of the cathedral Barcelona and conversion of the old hospital of Santa Caterina de Girona seat of the Generalitat. His forecast is that in summer can be completed part of the museum and artists’ workshops, while the end of 2016 is expected to finish the rest. One of the outstanding issues is now of access from the national road passing through the town of Sant Julià de Ramis.
Both from the city of Girona and from Sant Julià, and from territorial institutions and tourist bodies of the Costa Brava, it is followed with interest the work of this center is expected to attract quality tourism, which seeks both contact with nature and culture. Due to its location, the castle offers magnificent views and from the cultural point of view, waiting for the realization of contents, is estimated to be a good complement to the supply of Girona and the Empordà.
The initial idea of the company is to expose some of the magnificent pieces that for years have made for Tiffany, the famous New York jewelry. Many of the designs have gone Elsa Perettti study, the famous Italian designer who has a home in Sant Marti Vell, a town a short distance.
The permanent exhibition aims to be a museum of jewelry, gemology and silverware, nonexistent in Catalonia, and with the participation of the Guild of Joiers de Catalunya. For this space it is also has the technical advice of the MNAC. The pieces will be placed in the fifteen rooms located in what were the stables of the castle, which are almost intact. It can not be said of the rest of the fortress because in 1939, at the time of the withdrawal, the Republican troops did explode part of the outer wall and that affected the entire main entrance. Fortunately it did not explode all the powder placed on the walls, part of which was found still to start work.
Space above the stables two rooms reserved for exhibitions are located. According to one of the project leaders, they are not yet outlined the contents. Discussions have been held with Judit Subirachs, daughter of sculptor Josep Maria Subirachs, to expose part of the family private collection. As is known, there were attempts to move these pieces to a special room of the MNAC that so far have not borne fruit. For the other room several possibilities being considered, from a collection of Catalan painting to the work of a jewelry designer. Complementing this center they have been built and are almost ready six workshops of artists, ranging from a small house to a work area and even an outdoor oven for ductile iron, which allow stays of young creators.
The share of services includes a fifteen hotel rooms, high standing, which will have a small restaurant. There will be another restaurant, almost finished also larger. For one of the walls it has commissioned a mural ceramic workshops Josep Llorens Artigas, Gallifa. The resort owners have simply comment that have been contacts with the chef Paco Pérez, restaurant Miramar, Llançà, two Michelin stars, with establishments in Barcelona and Berlin.
Another interesting part is built underground auditorium with capacity for 300 people. The room has an oval shape and a dome with an opening in the central part where the outside light is filtered. The entire roof is covered with red earth, so it looks like it were a work of art.

The impressive entrance hall of the museum there will be a shop zone and the front wall 50 LED screens which will be screened audiovisual. On one side there is a waterfall and in the center a ball hanging from the ceiling quartz over 300 kilos. In another room entrance is planned to install a lamp designed by sculptor Amador Braojos, an artist who mixes bronze, silver and semiprecious metals.
