EFFICIENT AND SUSTAINABLE
The Port of Barcelona is the European port that grows most (+ 32% in container traffic in 2017) and also the first on the continent and the Mediterranean in the movement of cruise passengers. With the aim of being even more efficient and continuing to grow in a sustainable manner, the Digital Port project has been launched.
Barcelona has been a pioneer port in the application of new technologies, as demonstrated by the creation in 1999 of the digital platform of the Port Community, Portic. Now, almost two decades later, two key facts converge.
On the one hand, the change in the logistics sector has accelerated and the need for information for quick decision-making is more urgent than ever. On the other hand, the development of new technologies facilitates a much more intelligent management of the infrastructure, which allows to offer agile solutions to the client.
“Nowadays infrastructures have become a commodity, where the decisive factor is good management”, argues the president of the Port of Barcelona, Sixte Cambra. “What sets us apart from the Port of Barcelona and allows us to compete as a port is not just the infrastructure, but the quality, reliability and efficiency of the services we offer,” he adds.
WHAT IS AN INTELLIGENT PORT?
The smart concept does not have a single definition. For the Port of Barcelona, it encompasses six areas (logistics, mobility, environment, economy, social sphere and governance) in which it progresses transversally to consolidate itself as a smart port of reference.
Thus, smart logistics refers to the use of technology to make the entire logistics chain more efficient and predictive.
Smart mobility focuses on the optimization of local and international accessibility and puts the emphasis on intermodality.
Smart environment integrates actions to develop a sustainable management and to minimize pollution.
The creation of employment and the promotion of internationalization, innovation and entrepreneurship promoted by the Port of Barcelona contribute to the smart economy, while integration with the city, social cohesion and the cultural and touristic values it generates are related to The smart people concept.
Finally, the Port of Barcelona is also committed to a smart model of governance, with efficient management of public resources and a firm defense of transparency and participation.
In this context, technology and innovation become key elements to provide information in real time, offer new services from the flow of data and digitize processes. “We understand by smart deploying the most advanced technological means (sensors, license plate readers, monitoring stations, video analytics, telecommunications, etc.) to have all the possible information in real time. On the other hand, digitalization consists of taking advantage of all this data to create applications and services aimed at the client, which will allow them to be more efficient and competitive, “says the general deputy director of Organization and Internal Resources of the Port, Catalina Grimalt.
Several of these actions are under development, but many others are already operational, such as the Virtual Gates service or the Port Links project. The first one offers information in real time about the level of activity in all accesses to the port and container terminals, while Port Links is an application that allows to build and compare logistics chains through the Port of Barcelona, offering accurate information based on to the available offer of services (transit times, CO2 emissions of each section, etc.).
Other projects related to business intelligence, e-administration and cybersecurity are in the development phase and will be implemented in the medium term to complete the ambitious Digital Port program.

MSC starts the process to build a new cruise terminal in Barcelona
MSC Cruises has requested a concession to build and manage a cruise terminal in the Port of Barcelona that will be designed by the architect Ricardo Bofill and that would come into operation in 2021.
With the project, MSC Cruises seeks to boost its percentage of base-port passengers, those who start and end the cruise in Barcelona and, therefore, make a greater economic contribution to the city.
The company wants many of the cruise passengers who currently only make a stop in one day in the city to become passengers of the base port thanks to the facilities that will offer the new terminal.
The concession request sent to the Port of Barcelona, which is expected to begin the processing of this petition shortly, is about a space located on the Adossat pier and for a term of 30 years.
The Port of Barcelona has six cruise terminals: four at the dock for large ships and two at the World Trade Center for smaller boats, and a seventh one under construction. Barcelona last year received a total of 2.6 million cruise passengers from its facilities and is the first cruise port in Europe and the Mediterranean and fourth world port.

The Azamara Quest, with 343 swinger couples, will arrive this Sunday in Barcelona
During this month of August the port of Barcelona will receive 78 cruise ladders, a figure that breaks the idea that the city is full of travelers arriving on tourist ships during the peak season of the summer. As an example, in April 86 cruise ships made stops, in May arrived at 96 and for the next month of September 101 passenger boats, which no regular ferries will visit Barcelona.
Another idea that is also breaking with time is the consideration that cruises are luxury travel, an idea that would come to be equivalent to thinking that a hotel is luxurious by the mere fact of being so and not by its category in stars and the services it offers. In the world of maritime tourism there is something similar to the stars of hotels: there are offers for virtually all pockets according to the shipping company, the time of year, the category of the cabin chosen or the duration of the trip. It will always be easier to find a good deal on a megacruise that takes thousands of passengers on board than on a boutique cruiser, smaller, more exclusive and therefore more expensive.
The maturity of the cruise market has also led to a number of voyages, especially in medium and small vessels, with less than a thousand passengers on board: there are those dedicated to golf, and itineraries are specially designed so that travelers can enjoy the best courses during your trip. There are those who focus especially on gastronomic experiences, giving the possibility to visit celebrated restaurants, organize a special event related to food during the stopovers or one or several celebrities of the kitchen are invited to travel aboard the vessel in question . There are cruisers for music lovers, both classical and jazz, there are trips of marked political tone in which every day a speaker of the Republican American party is invited to give a conference followed by a debate and also trips in which the central point Is a real celebrity or fiction: comedians, television presenters or the heroes of Marvel. There are also cruises whose strong point is the dance and, there are also cruises that focus on the liberal sex as a way of leisure … or life.
On Sunday, four ships will make stops in Barcelona: the huge Norwegian Epic, the even bigger Freedom of the Seas, the newly christened Mein Schiff 5 and the Azamara Quest boutique boat. The first three will be in the dock and the fourth mooring in the dock of Barcelona, next to the World Trade Center. The latter is doing precisely one of these theme trips and its organizers, Luxury Lifestyle Vacations tour operators have called it “Rumba Mediterránea”, although it is not exactly a cruise dedicated to this musical genre of Cuban origin and mother of other genres like the salsa or other more local rumbas, like flamenco or Catalan: the trip is a swinger cruise.
“If you ever wanted to sail the Mediterranean … why not embark on an unforgettable week with more than 300 couples sharing their same lifestyle?”, Indicates in catalog and the tour operator’s website to potential customers, Which in an overwhelming majority are Americans, as LaVanguardia is one of its leaders in Luxury Lifestyle Vacations from the Mexican delegation, where it serves the entire Spanish-speaking market of the company. It is one of the few pieces of information he reveals, because without being asked, he says: “We are very discreet with revealing who our travelers are and what they do in their free time. We are reserved and a high quality company, as our name indicates “, concludes the employee of the travel tour operator for clients with liberal minds, not in the political-economic sense of the term (or maybe yes) but in the philosophy of life sexual or affective.
In addition to preparing trips to liberal resorts in Mexico and southern France, the company has specialized in chartering boats to organize cruises for couples swingers, renting ships as big as the Independence of The Seas, with capacity for 3,600 passengers or The Norwegian Pearl, where they can travel up to 2,830 cruise passengers. For the Mediterranean cruise, a smaller vessel, the Azamara Quest, of 181 meters in length and capacity for 686 people (343 pairs) has been chosen by a crew of 410 professionals.
The cruise is apparently a conventional voyage that departed last August 5 from Civitavecchia, the port of Rome and has continued through Livorno, Monaco and Saint Tropez.
Today, August 9, you will spend the day in Cap d’Agde, one of the world’s free sex emporiums, just three hours away from Barcelona by car, and after a day at sea will make its last stop in Ibiza, At the end of the trip in Barcelona next Sunday. The policy on board is “optional clothing” in the outer areas of the ship and some interior rooms have been enabled as huge relaxation areas for the interaction of those who go beyond having fun with their partner, which is the ultimate goal of this trip , With themed nights of marked erotic tone. After disembarking on Sunday, the tour operator proposes to continue a couple of days more enjoying the experience in Barcelona, in this case changing the vessel Azamara Quest by the hotel Melià Barcelona Sarrià from where the travelers will return to their cities of origin in the United States, Canada and some other European country, ending their thematic sea vacations.

The world’s most luxurious cruise stops in Barcelona
In the South Terminal Dock World Trade Center -nothing to do with the big quantity of Adossat– cruise passengers, a private chauffeur leaves walk from ‘Regent Seven Seas Explorer‘ two tourists with powerful aspect. Smile. Not for less. He confesses that throughout his career he had never taken such a juicy tip as he gave recently an American cruise passengers of the same company: 2,500 euros after take to a party in the south of France, at the expense of their free hours. The joy of billfold is typical of luxury cruise ships that dock in Barcelona, a market segment which is rarely discussed but moves million euros in the city. They are the most searched for hotels, tour operators and customer services. The ‘Explorer’, which has docked around the city Friday, blunts in the Champions League seaworthy. Opened last July by the princes of Monaco, it has emerged as the most luxurious cruise ship in the world.
The elite vacation at sea is not measured in size or number of attractions on board, but in service and emotions. Many giant supercruises from less than a thousand euros per week and Barcelona are frequent passenger-art, modern, full of restaurants and entertainment but popular and overcrowded and hyperactivity. The glamor on board, however, results in terms of space, top gastronomy, comfort and exclusivity.
They are usually small format, although the new vessel is medium in size but with the highest ratio of space per passenger in the world (other ships carrying 56,000 tons travelers even triple) and carries a crew member for every 1.3 passengers. A deployment to sweeten the lives of their 750 guests, who usually pay 4,000 to 5,000 euros per week, except for specific offers, account Carme Bigas, commercial director of Star Class-A world cruise, representative in Spain of this and most shipping high-end.
The visit of the new ship, which has other siblings who also flock to the city, is more than just one day. If in 2013, as reported by the newspaper, the port hosted 120 scales luxury categories (companies like Regent Seven Seas, SeaDream Yacht Club, Silversea, Crystal, Cunard, Seabourn Hapag-Lloyd or …) and -a degree below- Upper Premium or Premium (Azamara, Celebrity, Holland America, Oceania, Paul Gauguin, Princess and other …), this year the figure will rise to 191 scales. They moved more than 383,000 cruise passengers, as part of the more than 2.6 million passengers expected in the Catalan capital, sources said Port of Barcelona.
76 ELITIST SCALES
In the most elite segment will be 76 stopovers and 62,000 passengers. A ‘silent’ human flow because being smaller boats do not perceive their landings in the bustle of the port, and because most tours or hire private assistance. Some perform a scale of hours, others spend the night in the port, and often begin or end route in the city, which means customers spend several nights in the city. In the case of Regent, which is the only one with an integral whole with no added charges included (premium drinks, all especializades restaurants, gratuities, taxes, various excursions, fitness classes, culinary workshops, wifi all the way …) the package may include up to three nights of overnight stays, explains Gabriella Fonzo, director of Sales for Europe, Middle East and Africa.
What do the luxury passengers calling at Barcelona? Friday, those of the ‘Explorer’ had free tours of 3 to 7.5 hours by Gòtic routes, jewelry Gaudi, local icons or bodegas Torres or Jean Leon. But there were also private options to go with the chef of the ship Santa Caterina market and the Boqueria, and finish devouring a menu of two Michelin stars in the Àbac restaurant.
On the way back, and heading to the scale of Ibiza (Saturday) or the Italian coast have time to soak in the infinity pool that looks out over the stern (apart from the solarium), to relax in their loungers-(with hood included), watch the sunset from the Observation lounge with a drink, consult the 24 hours library and video library, take cooking classes in his 18 seasons with stove practices, contemplate 2,500 artworks on board (also Picasso and Chagall), participate in an outdoor barbecue in a casual meal at the grill by the pool, get a massage (treatments are not included), do yoga, listening to live music in the Meridian Lounge, sing karaoke or loose on the dance floor of the Explorer Lounge, see their own theater productions or without further and possibly the best, contemplate the sea from the balcony of the suite (from 28 square meters), with the plus a stocked minibar and liquor one demande.
The good life on board luxury cruise has one of its magnets on the tablecloths. Here in international version (Compass Rose), or specialized French, meat or Asian cuisine with a VIP area for those staying at higher levels. Special mention millionaires guests palatial Regent Suite of 412 square meters, about 10,000 euros a day for two people, including up to the antidote of the extra kilos (personal trainer) and transfers. The Hermitage of Barcelona will open in 2019 and will exhibit masterpieces
Four years after the president of the Generalitat, Artur Mas, announced as part of a pre-election trip to Moscow to Barcelona would have a permanent seat of the Hermitage Museum in Sant Petersburg, the promoters of the project, the company Barcelona Culture Development, which manages the designer Ujo Pallares, made yesterday its first public presentation of the project. They did it in the Casa Llotja de Mar, before a broad representation of business, cultural and political world Barcelona to announce that, discarded other venues, such as the building of the Customs, they have finally decided to build a building new plant and 15,000 square meters an area of the Port of Barcelona, near the Hotel W. The laying of the foundation stone is scheduled for later this year and its inauguration will be in 2019.
Ujo Pallares, who was accompanied by Jorge Wagensberg, director and head of the museum conception of future equipment, was presented as an “entrepreneur, a Barcelona that admires and loves this city,” he found in his Russian partner Valery Yaroslavskiy complicity and energy to make a success of a project that seemed impossible. “But nothing is impossible but things that have never been done,” Pallares said. The promoter of the project, which since the time it was learned has aroused great suspicion in the cultural sector, said that the Barcelona subsede the Hermitage is an initiative 100% private, which will cost 38 million euros and, for funding, is looking for a local partner after the departure of the Andorran sicav of MoraBanc.
Barcelona Culture Development has asked the Port Authority of Barcelona, where land, a concession for a period of fifty years by the same who signed the agreement with the Hermitage of Sant Petersburg ublican. The Port frowns construction of the new equipment in the Marina Sailing, where a marina for small boats will be built, but to give its approval requires that previously the City requalify the land for cultural uses (they are currently planned for commercial use ).
Jorge Wagensberg stressed that the museum will not be a franchise of the Hermitage, although it will draw on a fund of more than three million pieces, but a museum that does not yet exist in the world that combines art and science, and in which parts Russian museum (paintings, furniture, parts, objects, tools, scientific objects …) will serve to illustrate a story about the human condition. However, he added, which he will have a Hermitage room where permanently one or two masterpieces of the Russian Museum will be exhibited, for “the work of the month”.
The event was not attended neither the culture councilor Jaume Collboni nor the Minister Santi Vila. Instead, Commissioner of Culture of the City Berta Sureda, pointed at the end of the presentation that the City Council “We welcome any new cultural initiative, but at the moment we are listening and, once all aspects of the project known, we must make a deep in everything that involves “analysis. For its part, the director of Patrimoni of the Generalitat Jusep Boya said it “is a project that has a cultural vocation, very clearly, and also a commercial dimension. I think that even uses the name museum is in the tradition of the great private schools, of which there are other examples in the city. That said, I welcome the approach of Jorge Wagensberg, that original way to approach one of the most important collections in the world. We must wait to see how this materializes. What we have heard is a first approximation, but input the Govern de la Generalitat sees these INITIATIVES, like others who have gone out, sympathetically. Now, our intention is to place ourselves in the support and strengthening of public institutions. ”
Both Ujo Palllarés as Wagensberg wanted to make clear that this was not a project designed for tourists and cruise passengers, “although not close the door to anyone” and the latter fought against the idea of an elitist space aphorism: “Stop the elite it can be done in two ways: by killing all those inside or enter inviting everyone out. ”

The world’s largest cruise ship will arrive in Barcelona on Sunday for its inauguration
The cruise records (larger tonnage, passenger capacity and variety of attractions and gastronomy on board) and lines up heading to Barcelona, where he will land on Sunday morning to start their regular routes with the Catalan capital as homeport throughout the summer. The Harmony of the Seas will make a total of 22 departures from the port of Barcelona, with mostly international passage that half the world will come to embark on the new proposal of Royal Caribbean.
In theory, the Harmony is part of the series comprising two other brothers carving, Oasis and Allure of the Seas, which already were shooting in Barcelona the past two summers to note that the Mediterranean market was mature enough to Brand, for the first time in history, a boat of these characteristics and dimensions in a port in southern Europe. However, the shipping company has injected only a few centimeters wide, involving 1,700 tons (holds 227,000) to label rigorously with the claim of “largest in the world.” With 362 meters long, aboard fit between 5,479 and 6,780 passengers (depending on whether the occupation of some of the cabins is double or triple) and about 2,100 crew members, currently 77 nationalities.
But beyond the mega measures, the gigantic ship causes enormous excitement among cruise addicts by the myriad attractions that make it a sort of thematic city. Like his brothers, he is the first cruise crossed by a park-avenue full of greenery and open air, and that looks balconies overlooking these ‘avenues’ and or not only the sea good interior without a view, as is common in the sector. Even the interiors feature here with a virtual balcony on the wall to see what would be watching live from the side.
EXPECTATION
Harmony, built during 32 months in France, is performing a pre-inaugural route from Southampton (United Kingdom) to position itself in Barcelona, it is formally opened on Sunday (with a day and a half of navigation) and start their summer itineraries from the city, in seven days that will take you from Palma de Mallorca, Marseille, La Spezia, Rome and Naples. In the fall he will go to start routes through the Caribbean.
Your navigation these days, with more than 8,000 people on board, mostly British, has led him to spend a few hours Wednesday of scale in Vigo, which has caused real commotion. So will on Friday in Malaga, where you will receive both the port authority as municipal and tourism representatives. In Barcelona the Port will give the first scale plate, but the council has not planned no participation. While other ports of national cruise try to gain market share, the Barcelona’s questions the numerical success of the sector in the city and is currently studying whether it should limit its growth to avoid saturation or apply a new tourist rate even though not spend the night in the city.
To achieve even harder and tempt those who have tried other boats XXL, the Harmony launches novelties like the Ultimate Abyss, the highest aboard slide more than 40 meters long and passes through 10 of 18 covers; the Splashaway Bay, an interactive children’s water park and a trio of slides water. Dreamworks also offers expirience for family holidays … as well as known in the Aquatheater shipping with water acrobatics show open, and a more conventional theater where they can be seen as Grease Broadway productions.
The vast offer to be lost (literally) on board includes 20 restaurants (from the most creative cuisine to fast food) and incorporated into this series robots waiters Bionic Bar and smart bracelets to open the cabins and make any reservation of activities on the high seas.

The legendary orchestra and baritone Thomas Hampson shine in the Palau de la Música in a scheduled evening for a luxury cruise
A curious and unusual evening. That such a legendary orchestra like the Vienna Philharmonic landed Thursday at the Palau de la Música from the boat ‘Mein Schiff 3’ to act for clients of a luxury cruise it is not something that happens too often. In its 170 years of history this is the fourth time that the components of the mythical formation traveling with some music lovers tourists have paid between 4,682 and 10,361 euros to share music on board activities and enjoy exclusive concerts in the land of such exquisite quality as that of Barcelona.
BRONZED EXPEDITIONARY
Half an hour before the start of the gala entrance to the ‘hall’ modernist building and the bar ‘foyer’ seething with agitation a thousand elegant and tanned expeditionary who had arrived in several buses after landing at seven in the afternoon, the Barcelona port from Toulon. The incessant flashing of flases their mobile phones, with photos to remember and also of the facade and sculptures of Jaume Plensa, denoting clearly that those who entered, admired the concert hall were not the usual fans the different programs of the institution.
Looks skyward enclosure and the muses and figures multiplied stage while the cameras were still operating at full capacity. The Legion of cruise passengers occupied the stalls and first floor of the enclosure. Part of the second was reserved for the Barcelona fans who had purchased tickets at prices between 30 and 60 euros after hearing the web of Palau that this concert was held. Many of them were surprised that it had not been announced because unaware that the purpose of the gala was to serve travelers ‘Mar & Music’ circuit had hired the room.
AMATEUR CLASSIC
Cruise customers of different nationalities, including Spaniards also exhibited their own behavior classical fans, scrupulously respecting pauses and silences. The bravos and applause dedicated to musicians and the great American baritone Thomas Hampson were always selective. some familiarity is appreciated with members of the orchestra, with whom they share life on the boat since May 5, attending rehearsals, chamber concerts and recitals with renowned singers, besides having enjoyed another gala at Florence, May 9, with the orchestra conducted by Zubin Mehta.
BRIGHT CONCERTINO
The training was presented at the Palau with fifty musicians to develop appropriate plans and no master plan. The responsibility for a success of the evening was given by the brilliant concertmaster Rainer Honeck and we must hasten to say that the sound of the majority rope was compact, accurate and deploying the naturalness of who dominates this repertoire, the ‘Symphony, number 5 ‘Schubert. The quality and crisp and noble timbre of Hampson shone in the ‘Gypsy Songs’ Dvorak, although the volume of the orchestra made him raise the vocal tone in a cycle that usually is interpreted with piano accompaniment or a chamber group. A tip with an ‘Lied’ Mahler completed his heroics.
Arrogance was the interpretation of the envelope ‘Transfigured Night’ Schoenberg, who moved us the emotional atmosphere of the moods and feelings of the poem by Richard Dehmel, which is inspired. A bis Mozart capped a great concert prologue of the event in Palau 100, on June 27, with Viennese training, this time directed by Daniele Gatti. Do not miss it.

World’s largest cruise ship will stop in Barcelona
The world’s largest cruise Harmony of the Seas, has been delivered to Royal Caribbean and is ready to sail. This colossus of the sea measured 362 meters long, 66 wide, 72 high and has a capacity to accommodate 6,360 passengers and 2,100 crew members.
“It is not only the world’s largest ship, is also the most expensive ever built. I do not want to remove this merit, “said Richard Fain, CEO of Royal Caribbean, during the ceremony. And not without reason, the Harmony has required an investment of 1,000 million euros to become a reality.
“Make a boat of this size in 40 months is something extraordinary. It is the success of thousands of people who have worked on the project. The end result falls short of our expectations, “said Laurent Castaing, chief executive of STX France shipyard where it was built.
With more than 66,000 square meters, this ship is a floating city. It has 16 passenger decks, 24 elevators, 2,747 staterooms, two theaters, a skating rink, a water park with the longest slide in the history of the ships … even has its own Central Park so that passengers can enjoy park while they are surfing the sea.
The Harmony of the Seas will produce 20% less CO2 emissions per passenger and day the Oasis ships of this company. This is made possible by injecting air bubbles below the hull, which will reduce energy consumption. In addition, the system recovers heat exhaust gas to convert it into steam, thereby heating and distilling may be water for use on board.
The first cruise will leave in late May from the port of Southampton. Among their usual destinations are Barcelona, Florence, Rome, Marseille, Mexico, Jamaica and Haiti.

Maiden voyage of the new sea line connecting the two cities and is starting to work today
Good morning and welcome aboard the first ferry for Sitges “announced yesterday public address test on the trip boat connecting Barcelona and Sitges regular maritime connection and BlueCat operating company. The PA, however, forgot to recommend passenger- journalists and representatives of institutions that were forewarned and take a pill for motion sickness before leaving. More than one inexperience of work and surf at the same time was a bad experience.
A wonderful journey was presumed. The day accompanied with a bright sun, the sea sparkled and the ability to go in short sleeves made the visit to Sitges the most appetizing.
The new offering ferry trip is intended especially for tourists and cruise passengers. During the presentation, which also took on board, testing the endurance of more than one, they said, “it is another way to share tourism between Barcelona and Sitges”. The authorities hope that it will be an “opportunity to fluff the mass tourism of Barcelona”.
On leaving the port, the passage could enjoy the skyline of Barcelona. The imposing hotel Vela, recognizable towers, the Sagrada Familia cathedral and is blurred in Eixample that could only glimpse the streets climbing up the mountain …. and all moving from left to right from the high seas.
“We do not intend to compete with the train, but we want this to serve for an experience for the Mediterranean”, said the head of marketing for the company, aware that the initiative is not intended as an alternative to the 35 minutes it takes the railway to connect the center of both cities.
“Oh, oh, oh, how boot this,” said a reporter he closed his eyes clinging to the seat to prevent the rolling waves go to his head. “It seems we’re on the Dragon Khan”,.
Meanwhile, those responsible for the initiative showed their satisfaction. “It was a project we have been working since 2014. It is an opportunity in which we all win,” they said.
“Councillor, Councillor, are you okay?”, Two women, specialists in the marine industry, tried to resuscitate the first deputy mayor of Sitges, which succumbed to the movement and fell fulminated. He collapsed while making a move to enter cover. The impact was so strong that it was one minute on the floor unconscious until they finally came to. It was the culmination to a sharp rattle an hour and a half, which was to last only half an hour, and hardly could bear the unaccustomed. “I told you on the boat is better not to look the phone to not get dizzy,” he recalled pertinently, though in retrospect, a member of the crew.
The boat arrives traveling 35 knots (about 68 km / h), a very fast speed but may be delayed in departure and arrival to port where it should slow down. The Government expects the ferry is also consolidated in an alternative service for the Catalans who want to spend the day to Sitges and wish to make a slightly more original way.
Most journalists arrived groggy. However, in the terminal Sitges has installed a lounge area with good drinks and good food has arranged everything.

Barcelona receives 2.5 million cruise passengers in 2015, up 7%
The total traffic at the Port of Barcelona reached 47 million tons of goods in 2015, 1.5% more than the previous year, while the number of cruise passengers totaled 2.5 million, up 7%, It said today the port.
In 2015, the Port of Barcelona recorded positive results in the main indicators of traffic, with record numbers of vehicles in transport and transmission lines or highways short distance from the sea.
Container traffic reached 2,000,000 TEUs, equivalent to 20-foot containers, 4% more than last year, with export containers increased by 6.5% and import by 9%.
During 2015, export containers exceeded by 52% the highest figures achieved during the period before the economic crisis.
Moreover, these figures show a change in what concerns the composition of foreign trade because in 2008 imports represented 54% of international trade and exports accounted for 46%, while export containers are today 58% and imports 42%.
The port recorded during 2015 a record in terms of transported cars, with a total of 881,893 passenger cars, 18% more than the previous year.
Another historical record is registered goods transported by sea motorways shipping lines or short distance, connecting Barcelona with various destinations in Italy and North Africa, which recorded a growth of 21.5% over 2015.
The Port of Barcelona has had more than 3.7 million passengers in 2015, up 7%, while cruise passengers were 2,540,000 people, an increase of 7% also.
Cruisers that have grown have been the “turnaround” that start and end their itinerary in the Catalan capital, which have increased 11%.
The El Prat airport sector maintained the upward trend thanks to the tourist positioning of Barcelona and the promotion of low cost airlines. And it has not peaked yet
El Prat touch the sky. It will record on record. The Barcelona airport has six years winning passengers. A success story that does not seem to end. As recently said Kenny Jacobs, director of marketing for Ryanair, “it seems that everyone wants to come to Barcelona”.
How is possible? Xavier Fageda has worked in recent years side by side with the academic Germà Bel in airport issues. “The growth of El Prat in recent years has several explanations. The main capacity was expanded with the new runway in 2004 and the new terminal in 2009. The other key factor is the expansion of tourism in Barcelona and this has led to low cost to take positions. Also important has been the good management of the leading company in El Prat Vueling “.
Sonia Corrochano, director of the airport of El Prat de Barcelona highlights some oddities. “The city is among the four preferred destinations in Europe in social networks. Additionally statistics show that many people who come here for tourism repeated. And eight out of ten cruise passengers arriving by plane to embark on one of the cruises from the city. And this is a growing sector. ”
Spain as a whole is experiencing a sweet period from the tourist point of view because passenger traffic growing more than 25 months. The rise in international passenger traffic is driving, especially following the collapse of competitive markets such as Tunisia and Egypt. But it has also diversified its proposal.
According to the hotel association CEHAT, the supply of sun and sand has risen from more than 90% of Spanish tourism at 72%. “Few European countries have an airport network as extensive quality and quality as in Spain that connects so many different cities,” said Albert Grau and Bruno Hallé are responsible for tourism consultant Magma
Barcelona takes advantage of this situation because it offers everything at once: vacation tourism destination and insurance business and convention town. The current improvement in the economy is the icing on the cake. From Magma stress that, for example, “people company values the urban tourism and leisure. In a context of economic recovery, this group of travelers, less seasonality, it becomes crucial. ” These experts also stand out as the launch of El Prat “it is the reflection of a successful tourism promotion policy on the part of local institutions in recent years.”
“The surveys we conduct among our customers indicate that Barcelona is one of the (if not the) favorite destinations. Therefore, next year will transport more than 6.3 million people in El Prat, 500,000 more than last year, “José Espartero, director of marketing for Ryanair Spain, the company that transports passengers in Spanish skies. “Historically, the city has recorded more incoming flights, but we are seeing that departing flights are growing very significantly. Next summer we will increase our network of routes from Barcelona, with 3 new destinations to Berlin, Hamburg and Marrakech, “said Espartero.
In 2012 EasyJet had a base in Barajas. Now they have just installed in Barcelona. “Twenty years ago El Prat airport was the first in which we operate outside the UK for what is happening is not surprising at all,” recalls Javier Gandara, CEO of EasyJet to Spain and Portugal. “Behind the success of El Prat she is the fact that it is a destination in itself. And the low cost airlines, which previously flew from secondary airports, which have assumed and positioned themselves here, “Gandara said. There is a temporary factor that also plays into the Barcelona airport right now says this executive of EasyJet. “With the drop in oil prices, many low cost to them would not come before the accounts have decided to operate again. And this means that there is more supply, more competition and therefore more traffic. ”
Given these figures, Aena rubs his hands. Because the Barcelona airport, living an uptrend, is very profitable. In 2014 El Prat won twelve times Barajas and represents more than half of the benefits of airport management. “The reform of the commercial offer of the T2 and increased traffic generated higher revenues,” said airport sources.
The growth of the Barcelona terminal those years has gone hand in hand with Vueling. Fernando Estrada, Director of Strategy and Alliances of this airline believes “this pace is sustained, steady and it has nothing to bubble. Their bases are solid. Now after years we have created a hub in Barcelona, with passengers throughout the year and put the city in place in the airport market. The proof is that now more and more long-haul airlines have decided to come here. ”
Indeed, one of the common criticisms is that Barcelona has yet to lead in the long haul. But this aspect is also changing. Since 2006 the number of intercontinental routes has doubled. This week Emirates, announced that it will operate two daily flights between Barcelona and Dubai with the A380, the world’s largest aircraft. This introduction involves increasing the capacity by 32% over the current long-haul offer this airline.
“This reflects our confidence and commitment to the market in Barcelona,” explains Fernando Suarez de Gongora, CEO of Emirates. “We see potential both for those traveling to Barcelona from Asia, Australia, Africa and the Middle East as well as for travel to these regions, whether for business or tourist purposes”. Xavier Fageda states that “in relation to long-haul flights, the improvement on the growing presence of Asian and American airlines in the European market also tend to be positioned outside the major European hubs that are highly saturated, for example in Barcelona”.
Does El Prat ability to make this leap ?. Technically, yes. Corrochano recalls that current facilities can manage to reach 55 million passengers, ie 35% more than the current traffic. “You may add a level comparable to other T2 volume,” he says. You can also increase to 25% the number of operations per hour. The skies are clear.
‘The Love Boat’ in 1985 devoted two chapters to Barcelona. Fancy think it was that and not what OG put the city on the map of cruise tourism
2001 had little space odyssey in 1968 foresaw Stanley Kubrick. 1984 was also dystopia published in 1949 George Orwell. Next Wednesday, October 21st, 2015, is another mythical date, in this case the film popping. It is the day of the future that, in the trilogy of Robert Zemeckis, traveling Marty McFly through the condenser fluzo, where he discovers the flying skateboards, 3D without glasses actually shoes that fit alone to walk and Chicago Cubs will win Baseball World Series, something they have not achieved since 1908 and, glups !, seems that this year could get after last Monday beat the Cardinals. A disturbing self-fulfilling prophecy. But as much talk these days of Back to the Future and the prucés (well, maybe not), what comes next is a trip back to 1985, precisely the date from which came the title of Back to future and specifically to something that happened that year in Barcelona, which went unnoticed and then, depending how you look, it could be considered the original sin that led to this city what it is today, the Babylon of the Mediterranean cruise industry.
Most remember Love Boat, one of the most popular series of the 80s with the prospect seriófila Seen today, that was something cloying television product, but the structure was masterful. There was a core of players, but the narrative air ran cool thanks to the boat The Pacific Princess, carrying passage on each port, which gave rise to come onboard famous Hollywood stars, giving good atmosphere to chapters, however predictable they were. That was a Noah’s ark of old glories and young promises. Passed around among many others and caught at random, Lana Turner, Tom Hanks, Andy Warhol, Vincent Price, Lillian Gish, Courtney Cox and even the Village People in full. What matters now, however, they are Chapters 22 and 23 of the ninth season of the series, filmed in Barcelona, with Lorenzo Lamas on the paper’s grandson, of course, a bullfighter.
Flamenco climax
In most chapters of the action took place on the ship, as one in which, in a television “birlibirloque”, the angelinas Kate Jackson, Jaclyn Smith and Farrah Fawcett solved one of their cases under the command of Charlie, but Barcelona do not. Worth revisit. It is available, however little is look on the internet. Captain Merrill Stubing, the bartender Isaac Washington, Dr. Adam Bricker and public relations Julie McCoy stroll through the pre-Olympic Barcelona and discover what was then this city, a city without tourists. In an early scene he was to see the stern of the ship replica of Christopher Columbus who for years wore docked with swallows the port. The planes of the Rambla and Park Guell are shot to film amateur, with passersby looking into the camera, see what happens. The climax comes with the inevitable display of flamenco: the palm of the left is a then unknown Chiquito de la Calzada.
Natural, given the chapter is immediately suspect that transatlantic shipping companies, which both hurt in the 70s the emergence of gigantic jumbo in commercial aviation, saw Love Boat medium through which to promote your bet for the cruise not as a means of transport but as a destination.
The closest thing to a cruise passenger experience that had Barcelona until 1985 was the arrival from 1951 of the US Sixth Fleet, who did so much green the then withered local prostitution business, even gave him material for a greatest Xavier Theros book. Then came the Olympics, and how comfortable it is to say that was the zero kilometer of converting Barcelona into the undisputed capital of the Mediterranean cruise industry, but what the hell, what I feel is that really was in 1985, when McFlay traveling to The Pacific Princess future and docked in the city.

“The vacation aboard a cruise with a romantic past, but also an innovative future and adventurous thanks to the latest technology. We are determined to incorporate the best developments and turn them into experiences, leaving out the frustrations during the holidays. And so we created a boat that combines all this with maximum flexibility, “said Richard D. Fain, chairman of Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. Experiences that passengers can share with mainland through an unprecedented bandwidth on a boat, which allows them to be connected 24 hours a day.
The schedule of the visit of the Anthem of the Seas at the Port of Barcelona is a sign of the commitment of the shipping of the Catalan capital in its market positioning strategy in the European market, as recalled Bethlehem Wangüemert, CEO Royal to Spain and France. A bet that involves scheduling Barcelona on the route of all new boats of the company, either in single visit well to stay, as will the 2016 Harmony of the Seas, a ship still under construction which will enable the difficult still.

Construction of the Sagrada Família Barcelona
Click here to see the video:
133 years ago the architect Antoni Gaudí began to build the Sagrada Família, a pharaonic work that is expected to culminate in the year 2026. Currently, the works focus on the construction of the six central towers: the dedicated to the Virgin Mary, located in the apse and already built 60 meters, and the four Evangelists towers that reach 135 meters high and surrounded the tower of Jesus, located right on the Cruise Room .
“The four-armed cross atop the tower of Christ will be the highest point of the Sagrada Familia reaching 172.5 meters. Is slightly less than the Montjuïc following the desire to enjoy God’s creation failing “explains Faulí. But it will not be until 2020 that will see a radical change in the physiognomy of the Temple, although after 2017 may begin to sense.
The building of the sacristy, the new 2015
One of the more visible this year is the sacristy, a building located on the mountain side as though the final stage. This is the first part of the Holy Family on the street that leads directly, specifically the streets Provence and Sardinia. “The sacristy is important because Gaudí’s original model, a guide that would be essential to build in the future, the towers that he had drawn the shots” explains Faulí. This building will be part of a larger set made another sacristy, the Baptistery and the Chapel of the Blessed Sacrament of Penance and that will be placed in other corners. All of them will be joined by a cloister.
Other new features include the completion of the second porch of the porch of the Passion facade, with 8 columns made the mountain side of the 18 planned as well as the restoration of the pinnacle of the tower of St. Thomas, also in the same façade . And the restoration are and will be continuing to keep a pharaonic work.
