Barcelona launches a new luxury hotel in January-2016

Barcelona will have a new five-star luxury from January. The Hotel Monument revitalize the space until recently occupied one of the two buildings of the Hotel Condes de Barcelona on Passeig de Gràcia, the palace known as Casa Batllo Enric, the closest to the Diagonal Avenue.

The space aims to combine modern aesthetics with the legacy of the pre-modernist building designed by Josep Vilaseca, as have highlighted Tote Moreno and Carles Basso, the architects responsible for the renovation, with the collaboration of Oscar Tusquets.

A conference on Big Data in Barcelona

In the first edition of Big Data Congress in Barcelona, held on 3th and 4th November, will present trends in the industry and the state of the art technology in the city.

The event is organized by the Centre of Excellence in Big Data from Barcelona and is intended to become a benchmark in this sector in the city. During two days, besides explaining trends in the industry and the state of the art technology, the conference will share experiences and create a climate of networking among attendees.

In this sense, the Big Data Congress will be divided into two thematic sections to try to respond to the interests of all participants: demand and technology. The activities of the 3th November will focus on the first big block and present challenges in the sector. It also will present real case studies with the aim of showing the value of the data and everything that can be extracted to manage more effectively the needs of customers and citizens. On 4 technology will be the star of the day, with cases uses technological analytical data, massive data infrastructure and data visualization tools.

An app that detects distant motorcycle theft

Catalan Atlantis IT company has developed a mobile application that detects theft of motorcycles remotely via the so-called Internet of things.

With this application on your mobile and a sensor in the vehicle, the system also allows the alarm to sound at a distance, the lights turn on and off the bike, notify in case of accident or access information such as mileage, fuel available or the battery level.

In addition to the app, the burglar alarm via GPS requires installation on the vehicle in which it is necessary to place the sensor and an internal backup battery. The price of this operation is 195 euros.

IT Atlantis, which also has a version of the application for cars, is closing agreements with dealers and workshops in Catalonia to commercialize this product and is also in talks with Colombia to export customers application.

The company, founded in 2014 in Barcelona and ten employees, is one of the fifteen Catalan SMEs and technology centers that participated in the congress IoT Solutions World Congress held last week in Fira Barcelona.

The event brought together more than 4,000 industry professionals from the internet of things and 120 speakers, as reported by the Department of Enterprise and Employment in a statement.
