The festival begins today, LGBT Pride Day
Barcelona Pride festival returns with the aim of giving special visibility to trans people. The activity program starts today, LGTB Pride Day with the opening speech at 19h in Universitat Square, but the biggest events the weekend of 8 and 9 July will focus. This is the case of the Pride Parade, a crowded and festive parade new this 2016 changed the route and will be longer. And for the first time the Moll de la Fusta will host the bulk of activities and concerts. The organization foresees a participation of 260,000 people, about 20,000 more than last year, of which 20% would be foreigners.
The role for transsexualism have clarified the organizers, bring one of the most important cause for the LGTB unfinished. “It is a group of the most persecuted and harder, still are being treated as if it were a disease and why we thought it important to support them,” says Joan Igual, director of Pride Barcelona. “We do not speak of transsexuals, we talk about trans, because in this group there is much diversity,” he says.
It will be the main claim festival background and especially the large demonstration on Saturday July 9, which will serve as a “finishing touch” to the program and “bend the path”. “We’d be criticized much the Pride Parade had no sea because this year we changed the way to the Moll de la Fusta, a challenge” says Just.
Influx and economic impact
Just the sea will be a key attraction for the festival, as shown in the poster presented on Monday, and the organization expects a significant increase in affluence with around 20,000 people, which would make up the number of participants to 260,000. “Even perhaps are more, but we want to be prudent,” said the director of Pride Barcelona.
The festival has not quantified the direct economic impact of these days of activities, but stressed that Barcelona is “one of the favorite destinations”, one of the “top 5 favorite cities internationally” for the LGBT community. “Barcelona is leading and annually represent more than a million tourists and 892 million economic impact throughout the year.”

The Pride Parade, the main activity of the festival, will start on Saturday 9 July at 17h. The demonstration will leave the Plaza de Spain to Paral.lel Avenue, a new route longer ending at 19pm when the head reaches the Moll de la Fusta, where it will be located, as a novelty, the Village and the main stage. After the demonstration, 20h arrive concerts Sajen Lara’s hand, Kym Mazelle and Soren Luka. The Moll de la Fusta also host other important activities the weekend of 8 and 9 July, including sample entities and Pride Kids, space for little ones where they can participate in workshops.
There will also be Heels Race, with a prize of 250 euros for those who reach the finish line first; Miss Drag Pride Gala BCN, with prizes of up to 1,000 euros; and performances by Baccara, Veronica Romero and Sandra Bruman, among others. And for the first time, the Pride Barcelona will host the wedding of a gay couple in the Moll de la Fusta and the famous Indian party colors, Holi festival, with free admission.

The mayor of Barcelona, members of the municipal government and representatives of the opposition parties participated this Monday afternoon in installing the pennant LGTB tradition with the colors of the rainbow in the Hall balcony of Plaza Sant Jaume. Colau previously held a meeting with representatives of the participating entities to which has moved municipal support and solidarity in cases of hate difference as the recent slaughter in a gay nightclub in Orlando (USA).
