From 5th to 12th November, the International Festival of Environmental Film will screen 120 films in different areas of the city, also in schools

With the slogan “Change is underway,” the International Festival of Environmental Film makes Barcelona the world capital of environmental awareness with the projection from 5 to 12 November, 120 films in different areas: the CaixaForum, the CosmoCaixa Cinemas Girona, several universities (University of Barcelona and Pompeu Fabra University Blanquerna) and schools across Catalonia.
The festival, the oldest of its kind in the world, is celebrating the 22nd edition doubles and programming. “We are a film festival that moves and generates awareness, and always committed for social change and promoting environmental education from broadcasting,” said Claudio Lauria, founder and president of FICMA.
FICMA decided to start with two films that combine music, film and environment, with 2 characters: Dr. Jane Goodall awarded the Gold Sun Special Festival 2015, starring the short Trio Jane’s Music of Life in Why is that nature is also music, and the Orchestra of Recycled Instruments Cateura, a band formed by young Paraguayans marginalized areas from which their country has become famous throughout the world to play with instruments recycled materials. The orchestra carries the European premiere of the film harmonic Landfill.
The 2015 edition of the CaixaForum FICMA will close on November 12 with the screening of Last of the Elephant Men, a documentary about the relationship of an indigenous tribe with elephants and how to deal with a desperate fight for survival.
The official, the works competing for the Golden Sun Festival consists of 40 films, documentaries and animated films and fiction, selected from over 1,300 productions 100 countries. These figures have exceeded all records of participation in the history of the Festival. Apart from these films, over 80 films have been chosen also to be part of this ambitious program, divided into two sections: Visions of the World and Small FICMA.
Projections in the classroom
This edition FICMA has created a new section. Each named a Hall Cinema, the festival offers teachers of primary and secondary schools in Catalonia the possibility of a documentary project centers free catalog of works, divided according to age groups and themes, such as climate change, waste, renewable energy, sustainability and water shortages. The aim of this activity is that the environmental documentary genre reaches schools in the form of educational materials and encourage, thereby ecological awareness among young people.
