The Manual Alpargatera started as espadrille workshop just after the civil war (40’s) combining an ancient craft tradition with cutting-edge trends in fashion of that time, leading to a new alternative in the accessories industry.

La Manual Alpargatera The Manual was the first workshop that made fashion espadrilles, since 1940, before sandals were considered a type of footwear field, low-class, traditional country. Up to twenty years after that, we were the only company that dared to wear sandals to the world of fashion. Years later some others (as in the seventies), start to do it too, and now all kinds of people consider espadrilles as a very fashionable piece.

The espadrille is an ecological footwear made of natural materials, where the sole is made of vegetable fiber: hemp, jute, esparto … and instep of cotton, linen etc…
Is a shoe with a great tradition. The National Archaeological Museum preserved a sandal that was found in the Bat Cave of Albuñol (Granada) wearing human remains that are calculated to 4000 years old. This tradition survived for centuries, with some variations, but essentially remains the same, getting a comfortable shoe that fits the foot. For a long conservation, if possible, use them in dry soil because of the sole plant fiber soaked with water (rain) and body weight deforms the sole wet. If that happens must be washed with water and soap as soon as possible, either by hand or machine (if hand sewn). If washing by hand, must be washed with lots of water and dry them as best and as quickly as possible, because made of vegetable fiber, could rot. If typed, use a short program and cold water.
