The social club for creative disembarks in Barcelona
Berlin, London, Miami … and now, Barcelona. Soho House, the exclusive social club for creative professionals, created 21 years ago by Nick Jones in London and now present in 18 cities around the world, has just opened its doors in Barcelona.
It is his first seat in Spain, in the Gothic Quarter, in a nineteenth century building in the Plaza del Duque de Medinaceli, opposite the Port Vell of Barcelona; and for its creation, it has been allocated around 60 million euros.
Straddling the concept of luxury hotel – possibly reach Category 5 stars – combined with social areas where only members and their guests have free access to enjoy facilities like club, pool, spa, gym, cinema and restaurants; Soho House aims to be the opposite of the classic gentry club: The indispensable requirement to access it is to have a creative profession.
Its members belong to industries like film, the media, music or art; and to be selected, not only to test the profession but also be recommended by at least two other members.
Once inside, there are two unbreakable rules: entry is allowed partners suit and tie or use mobile phones to take pictures.
The price to pay? 1,500 per year for those over 27 years and half for the younger ones. That only in Barcelona. Also enjoy the facilities of the rest of the world Soho House is priced at 1,800 euros per year. But even with these prices scandal currently over 60,000 people belong to this private club worldwide.
The new headquarters of Barcelona has 57 rooms, which can obviously only book partners, and its cost is around 320 euros and 350 euros per night. One of them is a suite, with separate living room, and all overlook the sea, the city or the Duque de Medinaceli square.
The design of the new building was designed by Nick Jones, executive director of design company, Vicky Charles, and European design director James Waterworth. They were inspired by a classic design with influences of Catalan Gothic architecture and double height vaulted ceilings, because the desire for Jones is that each city in which disembarks.
The rooms boast modern at the same rustic feel, with warm, Mediterranean colors and patterned fabrics with traditional Spanish designs. And the spa, open to the general public, which opens Wednesday with the gym, is inspired by a Barcelona pharmacy 80s and has a large vault.
The furniture consists of an amalgam of European mid-century pieces, antiques bought in local Changuito or Mercantic and custom designs by the team of Soho House.
November reach its restaurant, Cecconi’s, an Italian restaurant that will open its doors on the ground floor and will be open to the general public. Like the film, although it will be only for members, will have a programming or independent arthouse films and even some sneak previews.
Music events and often tend to be borne by the members themselves (and has been acting to Craig Richards at the headquarters of Shoderitch, for example). Everything will be quoted on the roof of the hotel, with pool, hammocks and a rest area or in the club.
