The dragon and the princess

Lovers of fantastic cinema are counting the hours for the beginning of the most important festival of a genre that every year gains more followers. Sitges Film Festival has everything ready to start its 50th edition on 5 October. LYCHEE FILM FESTIVAL-2017
The Lychee Film Festival, the first Chinese film festival in Barcelona, premieres this Friday its first edition until next 22 September. The competition is organized by the Chinese and Spanish Film Association and the Wenzhow Business Association in Spain. The program includes the screening of 21 films, including fiction feature films, documentaries and animation short films, and will consist of three large sections.
The first block is a thematic section on the genus Soft Kung Fu -New Wu Xia. The films that make up this block are: Lu Yang’s sword brotherhood, popular Kung Fu Hustle Stephen Chow, King Hu’s classic A Touch of Zen, and three films that form the retrospective of filmmaker Xu Haofeng, who will be one of the festival’s guests of honor: The master, The identity of the sword and The archer.
The second block is dedicated to a section of contemporary cinema, with films produced between 2014 and 2017. Among the titles selected are two documentaries, There is still a morning of Fan Jian and the Van Gogh of China, by Yu Haibo. Also included are author and fiction films: Lou Ye’s Blind Massage, Yang Qing’s Chongqing Hot Pot, Zhang Dalei’s August, the thriller Deep in the Heart of Xi Yukun, Bi Gan’s Kaili Blues and two films by Tibetan directors Tharlo by Pema Tseden and Soul on a String by Zhang Yang.
Ingrid Olmo, head of communication and press of Casa Batlló, has announced the titles that make up the third block dedicated to animation short films: Li Jin’s Warrior Dream, Ruan Junting’s White Snake, Tang Summer’s Insect Country Bohua and two short guest director Weng Jie: The Killer: The Prequel and The Temple of Feng Xue Shan Shen.

The Major Festival of Gràcia celebrates 200 years with more streets decorated and a great “tent”

The celebrations of the district of Gràcia celebrate this year a special edition to celebrate the bicentennial of its birth. The most popular festival of the summer of Barcelona will kick off on Monday 14 August – in full bridge – with the proclamation, by the actors Roger de Gràcia and Agnès Busquets, and will continue until the following Monday, 21 .
The 2017 program will have more spaces participating: up to 22 streets and squares will compete in the expected decoration contest, two more than the previous year for the incorporation of the streets Maspons and Jesus. 39 portals and balconies will also be decked out, which also have a competition of their own.
In addition, on the occasion of the anniversary, the party recovers two traditions. On the one hand, Gran de Gràcia street will host activities after almost 50 years outside the program, will be dressed with two access portals and will be cut to traffic on 15, 19 and 20 August. The elaboration of the program in a participatory way began last May, with the premiere of a symbolic ‘viejo’ or traditional tent of a major festival in the gardens of Salvador Espriu (Jardinets de Gràcia). The other two entrance doors to the neighborhood will be in Gran de Gràcia, located at the confluence with the street Jesús and opposite the Fontana metro (L3) and made by students of the Massana School and the European Institute of Disseny. Both will be connected by a set of banners with drawings of children from the neighborhood schools.
Another novelty will be that the facade of the district, which was the town hall before its annexation to Barcelona, will be decorated again for the party thanks to a mural made by the studio Reskate Arts & Crafts and curated by the entity Diffusor. The festival Beefeater In-Edit 2015 arrived in Barcelona from 29th October to 8th November with nearly fifty music documentaries. This year include films about cult figures such as electronic duo Daft Punk, punk jazz bassist Jaco Pastorius and Canadian singer-songwriter Leonard Cohen. Other artists who star in the documentaries this year are The Jam, John Cage, Wilko Johnson, Nina Simone, James Brown, Kurt Cobain and Sparks, plus REM, Backstreet Boys, Bunbury, Dusminguet and Elliott Murphy.
The program also includes films dedicated to labels like Dischord Records and Disc BCore and other issues such as the electronic scene of Berlin during the Cold War, the metal festival Wacken Open Air and the origins of punk in Washington during the eighties.
The director honored this year is Britain’s Tony Palmer. In the festival will screen some of his most outstanding music documentaries (on The Beatles, Leonard Cohen and Maria Callas). In addition, Palmer will give a master class at the Palau de la Música.

The exhibition also pays tribute to the local art space dedicated to Antoni Gaudí, Miró and Pablo Picasso, with thirty lamps that reinterpret known works of three artists and their trends, such as the Sagrada Familia the woman and bird Park Güell.
