New Year’s Eve in Barcelona
The City Council and Tourism of Barcelona will keep the essence of the New Year’s Eve show that since the 2014 has been held at the Maria Cristina avenue of Montjuïc. The main change will be the disappearance of the main protagonist of the previous New Year’s Eves, Being Millennium Fura dels Baus.
The New Year’s Eve party will be a spectacle of light, color and music that will use the framework of the Magic Fountain, the replica of the four columns of Puig i Cadafalch and the backdrop of the National Palace, home of the MNAC. It will begin at 21:30 pm with music, animation and interactive games with mobile phones of the audience, but the show itself will start at 23:30 and end ten minutes after the bell.
The assembly of the party was commissioned to Focus producer and theater group Els Comediants. It will cost 517,000 euros, the same budget as last year. In the coming days it will seek private sponsorship to finance part of the soiree, which will include the 2016 video card made by entities in the neighborhoods of the city. Also performing groups of drummers and devils.
The bells will be projected on a big screen, while the quarter will be reflected in the columns, symbolizing the four stripes of the Catalan flag.
For years the idea of the City is to hold a competition between artistic groups in the city to be the ones who define the content of the New Year’s Eve Party.
