Carmela stays. For now, another month. Jaume Plensa sculpture, which has conquered so many locals, some of whom have collected many signatures to remain in its temporary location in front of the Palau de la Musica-, would go to the United States next day 22. A crane and trucks would be required to begin dismantling for transport. But finally Carmela, although it was created by Plensa (Barcelona, 1955) from a Barcelona girl face measures 4.5 meters high, is going to stay until 29 October in Barcelona. And even then you have to travel far for commitments made in the United States, in Michigan, may return. At least that is the wish of the City of Barcelona, which is negotiating with the artist for Carmela definitive form part of Barcelona’s landscape.

And in any case they want to recognize the value of the enormous path Plensa, “which has international recognition and yet is not fairly represented in the city of Barcelona”. And they want to do with him negotiating the acquisition of a representative work to enjoy all Barcelona. Obviously, the number one priority is to be Carmela remain on the streets of the city for good.
Collboni said that Barcelona is indebted to the sculptor, whose works have been installed in major cities around the world, from Venice, Shanghai or Rio de Janeiro Boston and Chicago, but in Barcelona has only a work of previous stages to the now, as the metal trunk and bullets cannon installed on Passeig del Born, dating from 1992. However, the facility last April Carmela at Sant Pere més Alt has made it the public itself that ask a sculpture. Carmela was part of a Plensa exhibition organized by the Palau de la Música, which every year riding a dialogue with an artist. A sample that included three other sculptures in the Palau and has finished putting Carmela in Barcelona’s imagination.
