Barcelona today celebrates a new edition of the #GirlsHack a hackathon for girls
The free event will bring together over 500 participants on the campus of the UPF Poblenou
In order to promote the interest of girls in ICT Lab Girls In organizing the free event #GirlsHack a hackathon where girls between 7 and 17 years may interact with technology, science and innovation, and expects the attended by about 500 people.
Participants can interact and experience in free workshops on programming with Scratch, applied robotics, AppInventor, virtual reality, 3D design and printing, electronic instruments with Mickey-Mickey, among other activities.
The organization works in the UPF (Pompeu Fabra University), who has designed an environment where girls can experience and discover ICTs in, close to the classrooms which will occupy a day to develop their studies and career privileged education. As a social movement, Girls In Lab, will this year with young students and recent graduates of the UPF as collaborators and workshop.
The workshops have the cooperation of the Institut Català de les Dones, the cooperative Abacus and Ricoh companies, Insa, Morillas, Visyon and Funbox with the provision of resources and support in the design of the workshops.
“More and more aspects of our life are developed with technology. However, women are underrepresented or in companies or research centers or centers of decision where it develops, “says Marta Salsench, Co founder of Girls In Lab, emerged from concerns of movement one women group devoted to ICT. “We believe that the more children and adolescents may come into contact with technology at an early age achieve more women working in the field of technology and engineering in the future.”
Girls In Motion Lab was born in Barcelona in February this year and is the first of its kind in Spain. It consists of women from different fields such as technology, education and communication. They work to reduce the gender gap between men and women in the ICT world, from training and inspiration for girls and female models approaching them success in science and technology.
