But the impact of mass tourism, the crisis of the art market and certain weariness among those who have promoted various initiatives has led to the artistic atmosphere of Cadaqués has languished in recent years. The objective of this proposal is to promote artists and art galleries of Cadaques. “We want to break some negative dynamics that occurs in Cadaqués, as in many other places. And the second was to look for an exhibition space, complementary to the ten galleries and the municipal museum that already exist. First it was thought at the Corral de Gala a space council property that had belonged to Salvador Dalí, but is awaiting rehabilitation. But then came the option of the hermitage of Sant Baldiri, a small chapel near the cemetery of Portlligat hardly used except for some burials.

Thanks to the good availability Jaume Angelats Parson and the help of the bishops of Girona, this winter has been clean, restore and paint the nave of the chapel. “And the chapel has been available to artists,” concludes Pitu Gomez, who also runs the gallery Dieu, moviment creatiu, on the same avenue of Sant Baldiri. Except the altar and the saint, the rest of the space, which includes the four side chapels, have been stripped of all adornment and religious symbolism and available to artists.

Sebastian Skira, born in Cadaqués in 1980, the son of a renowned gallery owner and grandson of one of the great editors of European art, the Swiss Albert Skira, has been for a week watching the reactions to his work.
