Fira de Barcelona diversifies and look abroad to maintain the good results
The General Council of Fira de Barcelona on Wednesday approved the 2015 accounts, in a meeting chaired by the Mayor of Barcelona Ada Colau. That year was second with more revenue in the history of Fira, exceeding 150 million euros, 27% more than in 2013, compared to that for reasons of fair calendar. As regards the Ebitda, it closed the year with 13.3 million, more than 10 million by 2013.
Fira maintains its firm commitment to a diversified and international reference calendar: 2016 in all 60 contests and until fifty corporate events are expected. In addition, weight increase abroad. “The international activity will continue in the second half with new projects in the pipeline”, they say from Fira.
A more than positive balance
The Consell has taken to take stock of the first half of 2016. So far there have been thirty exhibitions and conferences so far this year, plus nine co-organized fairs abroad.
Specifically, during the first half of this year they have been important trade shows like Mobile World Congress, Alimentaria, Barcelona Bridal Fashion Week, Denim Première Vision or the new In (3D) ustry and events aimed at the general public B-Travel, Bizbarcelona or Sónar.
They congresses and medical technology field such as the SAP company or those of the European Society for the Study of the Liver (EASL) and the Spanish Society of Rheumatology add.
International projection
During the first half of the year, Fira de Barcelona has given a strong boost to its international strategy. The idea is also to attract the focus on Barcelona, strengthen its presence abroad and be part of the internationalization of companies.
As shown, there have been issues of Smart City Expo in Istanbul, Puebla (Mexico), Casablanca and Kyoto; two new events in Cuba (HostelCuba Food and Cuba); Alimentaria Mexico; salons and auto Jewelry and Qatar, as well as managing their fairgrounds, the Doha Exhibition and Convention Center.
A year full of news
In the second half of calendar 2016 will also be intense, and news. four new events most of them emerging sectors will be launched. This fact highlights “the commitment of the institution to innovate and attract major events, thus reinforcing its role of economic dynamic and generator of wealth and social value in the territory,” says the president of the Board, Josep Lluís Bonet.
In the remainder of the year will disembark new events related to the engine and the technology sector. This is Barcelona World Games, video game trade show organized jointly with the Spanish Association of Video Games (AEVI); Barcelona Motorsport Show, focusing on motor sport and competition; IWater on the integrated water cycle; and Circular Economy, congress dedicated to the new model of reuse of resources and how to extend the life of objects.
Tourism, a key sector
A iWater and Circular Economy will join in the Gran Via holding Smart City Expo World Congress, the main congress of smart cities, and the European Utility Week, traveling event on supplies industry.
Also excels in the calendar year remainder of CPhI Worldwide, the world’s leading pharmaceutical industry which will occupy most of the Gran Via fair. Others like the Boat Show, Hostelco (hotel equipment), IBTM World (world leader event in tourism business) or IoT Solutions World Congress (Internet of Things applied to industry) and other corporate events technology field such as TechEd SAP and VM World, also attract international attention to Barcelona once again.
