Barcelona will host the world’s leading audiovisual fair since 2020
The difficulties to renew the board of directors of the Fira de Barcelona have not affected the daily management of this important economic institution of the Catalan capital. After many months of intense and very discreet negotiation, the team led by the general director of the Fira, Constantí Serrallonga, has agreed with the organizing company of the Integrated Systems Europe (ISE) fair so that, starting in the year 2020, it will be held in Barcelona.
The ISE will therefore leave its traditional headquarters, Amsterdam, where almost all previous editions have been held. It is a world leading business meeting in the audiovisual sector (AV) and integrated systems. The last edition, held last February, was attended by more than 80,000 professional visitors from all over the world.
Its duration is the same as Mobile, from Monday to Thursday and also stands out for its high professional and global component. Precisely, one of the concerns of the managers of the Fira has been to ensure a high level of fair activity for successive years to ensure the economic soundness of the project.
The current contract with Mobile expires in 2023, so both megabytes will coincide in several years in the same city. The ISE is held in Amsterdam in the month of February, so in Barcelona you must change the date to not coincide with the Mobile. The new agreement, in any case, consolidates Barcelona as a leading city in this field, regardless of what happens at the end of the current contract with the Mobile organization led by John Hoffman as GSMA’s top executive.
The megasalón started in Geneva and has been held in Amsterdam during the last years
The organization of the ISE is in the hands of an association with the same name between the two main world business organizations of the audiovisual industry, Avixa and Cedia. The director of the fair is Mike Blackman. The event was born in 2004, with a first edition in Geneva, with 120 exhibitors and 3,500 visitors. This year, the first ones were 1,200 and the second ones, 80,000.
The direct economic impact of a hall of these characteristics is of a level quite close to that of Mobile, which is estimated to amount to about 470 million euros per year and about 13,000 temporary jobs.
But, in addition, there is the effect of adding value to the rest of the economy, encouraging the development of new activities and companies, in a sector that on the other hand is hardly present in Catalonia. It is a dynamic similar to that of Mobile, which generated new companies in the field of communications and has ended up being a subsector with great job creation in the Catalan economy.
The ISE organizes its salons into seven major subproduct categories: projection systems, manual remote controls, wiring, conference infrastructure, digital signage, audio systems and content management. In addition, each edition addresses specific topics. In this year we have included residential solutions, building automation, digital signage, audio and video for live shows, audiovisual for education and training, technology for work and augmented reality, virtual and mixed.
In addition to the four strict days of the fair, in previous days, the hall organizes conferences, training and formation programs, demos.
