MSC starts the process to build a new cruise terminal in Barcelona
MSC Cruises has requested a concession to build and manage a cruise terminal in the Port of Barcelona that will be designed by the architect Ricardo Bofill and that would come into operation in 2021.
With the project, MSC Cruises seeks to boost its percentage of base-port passengers, those who start and end the cruise in Barcelona and, therefore, make a greater economic contribution to the city.
The company wants many of the cruise passengers who currently only make a stop in one day in the city to become passengers of the base port thanks to the facilities that will offer the new terminal.
The concession request sent to the Port of Barcelona, which is expected to begin the processing of this petition shortly, is about a space located on the Adossat pier and for a term of 30 years.
The Port of Barcelona has six cruise terminals: four at the dock for large ships and two at the World Trade Center for smaller boats, and a seventh one under construction. Barcelona last year received a total of 2.6 million cruise passengers from its facilities and is the first cruise port in Europe and the Mediterranean and fourth world port.
