The Polytechnic has launched the program ‘Salsam’ to provide support to international students through a mentoring
During the program is the work of mentors to guide students in the academic field but also integration into university life and practice the new language. Mentoring lasts a semester and each assigned to mentor two students.
This is the case of Helena, who studies in the master engineer of roads, canals and ports. She decided to join the program after being Erasmus. “There were a host program and found it very good opportunity to be part of here,” he said.
Once a week he meets Mathias, one of the student adviser. “Apart from the language and be able to help them in class, they can also tell them to visit the city, where they can go,” says Helena. An aid to foreign students is very positive. “I think it is a great way to meet people from Barcelona,” said Mathias, who comes from a Norwegian university.
The pilot project has been launched in four schools of the UPC in Barcelona 3 1 Terrace, and the goal is to consolidate and extend all the university centers. Currently involved more than 330 students: 224 students and 111 students from the UPC that make mentoring.
