Solidarity action #MésQueUnaRosa highlights the architectural link with the legend of the dragon and the princess and culminates with roses 2016 donation to the Arrels Foundation

Casa Batllo by Antoni Gaudí celebrates the Diada de Sant Jordi (Saint George´s day) a special solidarity and visual action: a blanket of roses cover its iconic facade of Passeig de Gràcia with a spectacular installation of more than 1,000 flowers to wear the balconies and the this World Heritage grandstand. The assembly can be enjoyed from 9 am on Saturday 23 until Sunday afternoon 24 and is part of the campaign # MésQueUnaRosa, culminating at street level with roses 2016 donation to the Foundation Arrels.
Moreover, contrary to Casa Batllo solidarity will be available rose to a voluntary price and the funds raised will go entirely to Arrels. #MésQueUnaRosa is a love story with the city of Barcelona that aims to bring the legend that has the Casa Batlló connecting with the public. And above all, to publicize the problem of people living on the street from empathy and through collaboration. In addition to selling roses, Arrels leverage is the International Book Day to present in front of the Casa Batllo the latest release of Miguel Fuster, 15 anys al carrer. This Barcelona artist spent more than a decade living in the street and regained his life thanks to the work of the workers and volunteers of the foundation, which now collaborates with drawing awareness and giving talks to students.
The legend turned into art
Gaudí’s architectural gem invites locals to rediscover the symbols of the legend that hides the facade. On the roof, the back of the dragon takes center stage with the shingles in the form of flakes, crossed by the cross of four arms that evoke the triumphant sword of Sant Jordi. On the top floor we find a flower-shaped balcony alluding to princess balcony. On lower floors, the remains of the victims of the dragon through the balconies in the shape of skulls and the columns of the gallery as bones are located.
In the private entrance hall housing the Batllo family, a staircase with a handrail whose finials reminiscent of the vertebrae of an animal and, according to popular culture, could refer to the dragon’s tail is located. Finally, in the attic, the main hall of catenary arches evokes the ribcage of a large animal.
