Barcelona receives 2.5 million cruise passengers in 2015, up 7%
The total traffic at the Port of Barcelona reached 47 million tons of goods in 2015, 1.5% more than the previous year, while the number of cruise passengers totaled 2.5 million, up 7%, It said today the port.
In 2015, the Port of Barcelona recorded positive results in the main indicators of traffic, with record numbers of vehicles in transport and transmission lines or highways short distance from the sea.
Container traffic reached 2,000,000 TEUs, equivalent to 20-foot containers, 4% more than last year, with export containers increased by 6.5% and import by 9%.
During 2015, export containers exceeded by 52% the highest figures achieved during the period before the economic crisis.
Moreover, these figures show a change in what concerns the composition of foreign trade because in 2008 imports represented 54% of international trade and exports accounted for 46%, while export containers are today 58% and imports 42%.
The port recorded during 2015 a record in terms of transported cars, with a total of 881,893 passenger cars, 18% more than the previous year.
Another historical record is registered goods transported by sea motorways shipping lines or short distance, connecting Barcelona with various destinations in Italy and North Africa, which recorded a growth of 21.5% over 2015.
The Port of Barcelona has had more than 3.7 million passengers in 2015, up 7%, while cruise passengers were 2,540,000 people, an increase of 7% also.
Cruisers that have grown have been the “turnaround” that start and end their itinerary in the Catalan capital, which have increased 11%.
