Cubism and war
The exhibition Cubism and war. The glass on the flames will star in programming the Museu Picasso de Barcelona has prepared for 2016. It will bring together more than 80 works by Picasso, Juan Gris, Diego Ribera, Georges Braque, Henri Matisse, Fernand Léger Maria Blanchard or Gino Severini and It may be later this year.
Bernardo Laniado-Romero, director of the Picasso Museum, explained on Wednesday that this exhibition, curated by Christopher Green, professor emeritus of art history at the Courtauld Institute in London, focuses on the survival of European artistic vanguard established in Paris for World War I, and his response to the war.
The works to be exhibited, made between 1913 and 1919, are, according to the director, “a sample of artists in the rearguard that respond to war with a burst of energy,” which focuses particularly on three artists: Picasso, Gris and Ribera. The works for this exhibition, which opens on October 20 and runs until January 29, 2017, came from disposals of some of the most important museums in the world.
Collaboration with the National Gallery in London
2016 program also highlights the Picasso exhibition, portraits, a project that will be presented first in London and is a collaboration with the National Portrait Gallery in London. This exhibition “redefines the established parameters of the concept of portraiture in Picasso”, a song that is not from 1996, highlighted Bernardo Laniado-Romero.
The exhibition, which will be in London from October 2016 to February 2017, and in Barcelona from March 2 to June 25, 2017, is a new perception of what it means to Picasso portrait, “a place where constantly painter breaks boundaries and meanings established. ”
Another exhibition that the Museum has prepared for a foreign center is Picasso before Picasso, which will be exhibited at the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art (Humlebaek, Denmark), made up of 27 drawings from the collection of the Barcelona museum “tell the story of the Picasso training, from schools before their schooling, until its passage through the educational system by his father and the Llotja school, portrait, landscape and urban life. ” In exchange for organizing this exhibition, Picasso received on deposit three major works of the last period of Picasso, painted in 1959, 1961 and 1971 card player that will be posted next week.
Photography and research
By June 2016 it has also organized a selection of photographs that looks at Picasso ceramic work. This year a new catalog of paintings and sculptures from the Museum will be presented (the latest is 1984) revised after 304 paintings and 2 sculptures. In addition, work on the research of some works of Picasso as Harlequin, Woman with Mantilla and the Columbus monument, among others, whose result was presented at the Third International Symposium organized by the Museum restoration next year.
