Catalonia is a land of castles. In fact, one of the many theories on the etymological origin of our country is that the word derives from ‘land of castles’, which would have evolved from the term ‘castlà’, from the French ‘chastelain’ and ‘châtelain’, which would serve to call the governor of a castle. Certain or not, this theory, which is unquestionable, is that Catalonia has a great medieval heritage. The 600 fortresses, towers and strong houses scattered throughout the different points of the Catalan geography are proof.
